My new alarm clock

I've moved my coffee maker into my bathroom (which adjoins my bedroom and places it about 5 feet from my bed). I've done this on the theory that I can set the timer on the coffee maker to coincide with my getting up and that the smell of freshly brewed coffee will do a better job of getting me to haul my butt out of bed than a loud beeping noise.

In other news, giving up coffee on the same weekend when you have to work a whole bunch is not a lot of fun, even if it prevents my caffeine addiction from spiraling out of control.

Into work at 7am on a Monday morning to check the network after a power outage. (Programmers usually don't get in until 10). Walking around with a thick cup of tanzania peaberry in my mug. One of the grad students sees me... "I thought you gave up coffee?!" Walking past in a daze I mutter something to the effect "I've come to accept that it's not a good idea to give it up this month."

(maybe next month -- sigh)

Ah, I see you like expensive caffeine.

I think I'm going to have to move the fan from my bedroom window to my bathroom window as it currently blows cleanish air (remeber, I live in los angeles) in and prevents the coffee scent from wafting over and waking me up.

Fortunately, my two backup alarm systems (the hideous beeping thing that displays the time, and the cat who wants to be fed in the morning) function perfectly and I'm in to work on time.

"Programmers don't get in until 10" -- that's cause they were working til midnight!

If it's anything like my job anyway...

The really scary thing is that there are the younger programmers who get in around 9 and work until midnight.

I usually feel plenty good if I put in a 12 hour day.
